First Aid – HLTAID003 Provide First Aid

Summary

Previously known as Apply First Aid or Senior First Aid, this course will give you the skills and knowledge required to provide First Aid response, in a range of situations, until the arrival of medical or other assistance.

Duration

1 day – workbook will be sent prior to course with Reference materials, this MUST be completed prior to attendance at the course and returned to the trainer on the day of training.

Outline

This course will provide participants with a sound knowledge of First Aid procedures.

Why Should I Attend?

This course will equip you with this skills and knowledge to provide First Aid assistance if the need arises in your workplace, home or community organisation.

Duration

The Practical component of the First Aid course is conducted over one day (8 hours). It is a further requirement that each participant completes the theory component prior to attendance. This will be provided to you after you have enrolled and paid for your course.

Some elements covered in this course:

  • Recognise an emergency situation
  • Identify, assess and manage immediate hazards to health and safety of self and others
  • Assess the casualty and recognise the need for first aid response
  • Assess the situation and seek assistance from emergency response services
  • Perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) in accordance with Australian Resuscitation Council (ARC) guidelines
  • Provide first aid in accordance with established first aid principles
  • Display respectful behaviour towards casualty
  • Obtain consent from casualty where possible
  • Use available resources and equipment to make the casualty as comfortable as possible
  • Operate first aid equipment according to manufacturer’s instructions
  • Monitor the casualty’s condition and respond in accordance with first aid principles
  • Accurately convey incident details to emergency response services
  • Report details of incident to workplace supervisor as appropriate
  • Maintain confidentiality of records and information in line with statutory and/or organisational policies
  • Recognise the possible psychological impacts on self and other rescuers involved in critical incidents
  • Participate in debriefing to address individual needs
