Outline

Austrain Academy is an approved provider of the Advanced Responsible Conduct of Gambling (ARCG) classroom course on behalf of Liquor & Gaming NSW and our training meets the most recent guidelines.

This course is designed to give senior staff of gambling venues the advanced knowledge, confidence and practical skills required to effectively interactwith patrons, particularly in high-intensity situations, and the leadership skills required to competently guide and support other staff in creating a safe gambling environment.

Note – this course is mandatory from 1 July 2024 for Responsible Gambling Officers (RGO's) and some categories of venue management. See Liquor & Gaming NSW (LGNSW) for more information.

Why Should I Attend?

  • To build on the skills that you’ve already developed through your experience of working in gambling venues, to enable you to confidently and effectively support patrons who are experiencing gambling harm
  • To develop your advanced interpersonal skills to enable you to effectively anticipate, prevent and manage high-intensity situations
  • To develop your understanding of the ‘conflict cycle’ and ‘stages of change’ models, so that these can guide your interactions with patrons
  • To give you a proactive approach to minimising gambling harm, using step-by-step guidelines on how to manage high-intensity situations such as those involving angry, aggressive, distressed or suicidal patrons and concerned family members
  • To highlight the importance of leadership from senior staff in promoting a culture of responsible gambling and proactive harm minimisation, and give you strategies to support and guide more junior staff in identifying and reporting any warning signs of problematic gambling behaviour

CERTIFICATION AND COMPETENCY CARD

Completion certificates

Upon successful completion of an ARCG course, you will receive an ARCG course completion certificate.

Competency cards

If you hold a digital competency card, the ARCG endorsement will be automatically added to your digital card free of cost.

To add the ARCG endorsement to your competency card, visit the competency card self-service portal to manage your competency card online.

Note: In NSW all competencies must expire on the same date, calculated five years from the first competency gained. For example, if your RCG competency expires in June 2024, even if you gain your ARCG competency in Jan 2023 both competencies will still have an expiration date of June 2024. This ensures all your competencies are current and expire on the same date.

Duration:

The ARCG course is delivered face to face in a classroom and is a competency based minimum six (6) hour program (exclusive of breaks) with a Completion Certificate issued on successful completion of the course.

Course Content

By the end of this course, you will have the knowledge and skills required to:

  • identify, approach and assist patrons who are showing signs of problematic gambling behaviour
  • refer patrons who are experiencing problems with gambling to appropriate support services (including self-exclusion)
  • understand and effectively apply key conflict resolution strategies when dealing with patrons who are showing anger or aggression
  • advise and support venue staff in non-specialist roles to identify and report warning signs of problematic gambling behaviour
  • lead and support a culture of responsible gambling and proactive gambling harm minimisation in your venue.

The ARCG Course Participant Workbook PDF, 4350.51 KB reflects the new and improved RCG training framework for those with greater gambling-related harm minimisation responsibilities.
