RSA is a mandatory course that you must undertake if you want to work in any venue in NSW where alcohol is sold or supplied.
Depending on your duties you may also need Responsible Conduct of Gambling (RCG) training. Gaming machines are allowed in registered clubs and hotels and venue staff have additional responsibilities when operating gaming machines.
Austrain Academy is an approved provider of NSW RSA & RCG training on behalf of Liquor and Gaming NSW.
This course is a 6½ hour face to face classroom course that will prepare you for work in the hospitality industry. A NSW competency card can be obtained on successful completion and is valid for 5 years. The course fee includes the cost of the competency card.
You will also be issued with a National RSA Statement of Attainment (SITHFAB021), which may allow you to work in other states in Australia, depending on each state's requirements.

This course is for students new to the liquor industry or returning to a job requiring RSA competency after five years. If you already have an RSA and/or RCG Photo Competency Card that is not more than 28 days expired, or an RSA/RCG interim certificate issued within five years from the ‘Valid for duties date" ( in this case,attend a Service NSW branch with the required ID), you do not need to complete this course. (If you choose to complete the course, another Interim Certificate cannot be provided.) You can now renew your photo competency card for five years by completing online refresher training with Liquor & Gaming NSW. If your card is expiring soon, you will be notified by email and SMS about how to renew and complete the online refresher training.
You must disclose and provide a copy of eligible interstate RSA certification for verification. For the purposes of this condition, ‘eligible RSA certification’ means a current RSA certification or endorsement from another State or Territory held for completing an RSA course or RSA refresher course provided

Additionally, if you wish to become a licensee, approved manager or club secretary in NSW you may only need to complete the Licensee training.

In NSW this RSA Course is a minimum requirement for all staff involved in the sale, supply service or promotion of alcohol. It is vital that all staff understand the requirements of the Liquor Act & Regulations in order to protect themselves and their employers from liability.

Note - People who would like to work in senior roles that have greater responsibilities under the liquor laws will be required to complete additional training. Licensee training is a requirement for most licensees, approved managers and club secretaries.
Once you have successfully completed and paid for your course it will take between 24 and 48 hours for you to receive your 'interim certificate'. This certificate will enable you to work serving or supplying alcohol for 90 days. During this time you must apply for your Competency Card or you won’t be able to work after the 90 days are expired.
You can apply for the Liquor and Gaming NSW Photo Competency Card at participating Service NSW outlets when you present your Interim Certificate and 100 points of identification.

The RSA course is a competency based minimum 6.5 hour program (includes breaks) with a Statement of Attainment and an Interim Certificate issued on successful completion of the course.
