RSA is a mandatory course that you must complete if you wish to work in any venue in NSW where alcohol is served.
This course is a 6 ½ hour interactive course that will prepare you for work in the hospitality industry. A competency card can be obtained on successful completion and is valid for 5 years. Currently you will need to re-sit the course if your paper-based certificate has expired.
Note: This course is for students new to the industry or students with an expired paper certificate. If you already have an RSA and/or RCG Photo Competency Card you do not need to complete this course. You can now renew your photo competency card for five years by completing online refresher training with Liquor & Gaming NSW. If your card is expiring soon, you will be notified by email and SMS about how to renew and complete the online refresher training.
The Academy has developed a Responsible Service of Alcohol Course, which has been approved by the Liquor & Gaming NSW and accredited by the Australian Skills Quality Authority (ASQA), meeting the Liquor & Gaming NSW’s most recent guidelines.
In NSW this RSA Course is a minimum requirement for all staff involved in the sale, supply service or promotion of alcohol. It is vital that all staff understand the requirements of the Liquor Act & Regulations in order to protect themselves and their employers from liability.

The RSA course is a competency based 6.5 hour program (includes breaks) with a Statement of Attainment issued by The Academy and an Interim Certificate by the Liquor & Gaming NSW on successful completion of the course.

Austrain Academy have provided several RSA and RCG courses to the W. Short Hotel Group. Our staff receive thorough information which they use every day when handling Alcohol and dealing with Gaming. Old-style paper certificates are being phased out in stages until mid 2016.
Staff must not work with an expired certificate.

Staff in Kings Cross and Sydney CBD Entertainment precincts are subject to special conditions.
To work in a licensed venue in the Kings Cross precinct, you must have a valid Photo Competency Card or a valid Interim Certificate. An Old Style paper certificate (any certificate issued before 22 August 2011) for RSA is not valid for work in venues in this area.
From 1 October 2014, the same conditions apply to workers in licensed venues in the Sydney CBD Entertainment precinct.
