RCG training is mandatory in NSW if you want to work in any role where your duties involve gaming machines. Gaming machines are allowed in registered clubs and hotels and venue staff have additional responsibilities when operating gaming machines.
Depending on your duties you may also need Responsible Service of Alcohol (RSA) training. Austrain Academy is an approved provider of NSW RSA & RCG training on behalf of Liquor and Gaming NSW.
This course is a 6½ hour face to face classroom course that will prepare you for work in the hospitality industry. A NSW competency card can be obtained on successful completion and is valid for 5 years. The course fee includes the cost of the competency card.
You will also be issued with a National RCG Statement of Attainment (SITHGAM001), which may allow you to work in other states in Australia, depending on each state's requirements.
You must bring one of the following types of Photo ID to your course:
This course is for students new to the liquor industry or returning to a job requiring RCG competency after five years. If you already have an RCG and/or RSA Photo Competency Card that is not more than 28 days expired, you do not need to complete this course. (If you choose to complete the course, another Interim Certificate cannot be provided.) You can now renew your photo competency card for five years by completing online refresher training with Liquor & Gaming NSW. If your card is expiring soon, you will be notified by email and SMS about how to renew and complete the online refresher training.
Note: Austrain Academy is not a CRICOS provider and as such, most students on a student visa are not eligible for enrolment. See the ASQA website for further information.
Austrain Academy is an approved provider of the Responsible Conduct of Gambling Course on behalf of Liquor & Gaming NSW and our training meets the most recent guidelines.

For further information about RCG requirements in States and Territories other than NSW please contact the relevant state authority.
Once you have successfully completed and paid for your course it will take between 24 and 48 hours for you to receive your 'interim certificate'. This certificate will enable you to work in gaming machine related duties for 90 days. During this time you must apply for your Competency Card or you won't be able to work after the 90 days are expired.
You can get the digital version of the card as soon as you visit Service NSW to have your photo taken and proof-of-identity check. Visit www.service.nsw.gov.au and search 'Get started with digital licences' to learn more about the digital NSW competency card.
Note – if you already have a valid competency card and wish to add either an RSA or RCG Competency, you do not need to attend Service NSW again. You can complete the form available at the Liquor & Gaming website.
The RCG course is a competency based 6.5 hour program (includes breaks) with a Statement of Attainment and an Interim Certificate issued on successful completion of the course.
